DSU Names Two New Assistant Coaches

Dakota State University announced the hirings of two new assistant coaches earlier this week, with Cody Dieffenbaugher on the football team and Sam Nicholson for the basketball team.

Dieffenbaugher, or “Dieff”, began his duties last spring serving as the defensive line coach, special teams coordinator, and also as a travel coordinator for the Trojan football program.

Prior to coming to DSU, Dieff was the special teams’ coordinator, defensive backs coach, pass game coordinator, and defensive recruiting coordinator for Bethany (Kan.) in Fall 2021. He coached two All-Conference players and a player that plays professionally overseas in Finland and Hungary.

Nicholson started his duties for the DSU baseball team earlier this week. He comes from Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.), where he was a graduate assistant men’s basketball coach during the 2020-21 season before being promoted as the assistant coach in 2021-22.

He is a 2020 graduate of South Dakota, where he worked as a student assistant coach with the Coyotes’ men’s basketball program, and was a member of the team’s conference championship season in 2016-17.
