The North Star Athletic Association has selected junior Tyra Payne of Dakota State as its Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week.
Payne tossed a career best of 43.25 meters (141 feet, 11 inches) to place eighth in the hammer throw at the Dordt Invitational on April 1 for the Trojans. She was the second-best NAIA thrower in the event and currently holds the top mark in the North Star Athletic Association women’s hammer throw. Her hammer throw is the seventh best toss in school history.
Payne also posted a personal best toss of 35.17 meters (115 feet, 5 inches) in the discus throw, placing ninth for DSU. Her discus throw is the third-best in the league.
Dakota State continues their outdoor track & field action this weekend, competing in the two-day Red Raider Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The North Star Athletic Association outdoor multi-events championships will also take place in conjunction with the meet on the campus of Northwestern in Orange City, Iowa.
