DSU in the South Dakota Early Bird Invite

In the South Dakota Early Bird Invitational, six Dakota State women’s athletes produced personal records.

Lindsey Roth highlighted the day with a fifth-place finish with a personal best time of 2 minutes, 27.24 seconds for the Trojans in the 800 meter run. Madelyn Sylva added a career best time of 2:31.80 in the race, placing 11th.

Fane Sauvakacolo was the top NAIA place finisher in a pair of sprinting events. She posted a time of 12.58 seconds in the 100-meter dash and produced a time of 26.06 seconds in the 200-meter dash.

Four Dakota State throwers hit personal records in the hammer throw, highlighted by Oliviyah Thornton with a career best 143 feet, 10 inches. Her toss is the ninth best hammer throw in the school record book. Britni Plucker followed up with a 138 feet, 8 inches toss.

Kiana Mounga registered a personal record hammer throw toss of 129 feet, 2 inches.  Bella Maxwell threw 126 feet, 2 inches, while Alexis Olson hit a personal best mark of 123 feet, 10 inches. Myra Whitehead recorded a personal record of 92 feet.

Carson Quigley leaped 16 feet, 1.5 inches in the long jump for DSU. Traia Hubbard threw 133 feet, 4 inches, while Gabriella Peitzmeier hit a mark of 132 feet.

Dakota State continues their outdoor track & field action this weekend with another two-day meet. The Trojans head to Sioux City, Iowa to compete in the 2023 Sioux City Relays.Â
