DSU Basketball Loses Heartbreaker to Viterbo

Last night the Dakota State men’s basketball traveled to Viterbo where the Trojans lost in the final minute, 61-60.

Neither team was able to score early on, with no score in the first two minutes. Viterbo was able to get out to the 8-2 lead early, but DSU strung together a 13 point run to get out to a 15-8 lead.

Once Viterbo went on a run of their own to tie the game back up at 15-15, the rest of the second half remained close, though the Trojans held the lead for most of the half.

DSU led 27-24 at the half.

Coming out of halftime, the V-Hawks were able to go on an eight point run. However, Ben Hoverson was able to score the first 11 points for DSU in the second half to keep the Trojans in the game.

The entire second half remained back-and-forth, with no team getting a safe lead. In the final minute, Jack Monis hit a layup to give Viterbo the one point lead. With 4.1 seconds left, the Trojans had the opportunity to steal the win at the buzzer, however the final shot did not go in as the clock winded down, giving Viterbo the 61-60 win over Dakota State.

Hoverson finished with 29 points, shooting 7-11 from three-point range. Sam Muller, Ethan Damerum, and Ethan Slaathog each finished with six points. Muller added eight rebounds, while Damerum had six.

Robert Cunitz led the V-Hawks with 17 points.
