The Bellevue Bruins swept the Trojans of Dakota State last night in NSAA play. The Women saw their 10 game winning streak end, as the Bruins won 83-72 in the first game and the Bellevue Men never trailed, winning 89-64.

The Lady T’s jumped out to an early advantage and led 24-16 after the first quarter. They would stretch out to a double-digit advantage in the second before the Bruins used a 15-0 scoring run to over take DSU. It was a two point game at halftime, 43-41. Bellevue pushed its lead to double-digits in the third quarter and after three it was 64-54. Dakota State scored the first nine points in the fourth to trim the deficite to one point, but were unable to take the lead. The Bruins answered with a 5-0 and DSU never got any closer down the stretch. 

With the loss, the Lady T’s ended up with the three seed in the upcoming NSAA tournament. Morgan Koepsell had 19 points and Lexi Robson  finished with 12, including 8 for 8 from the free throw line. Dakota State finished the regular season at 16-14 overall and 10-4 in NSAA play.

 

After a trading of early buckets on the Men’s side, Bellevue slowly and steadily built their lead over Dakota State. It was 50-36 at half time and despite a couple of mini runs in the second half from the Trojans, the Bruins would lead by as much as 25 in the second half. Bellevue, who had already clinched the regular season conference title, showed their athleticism with a bevy of dunks and hitting 14 3’s in the game. 

Gare Ewefada led three DSU players in double-digit scoring, finishing with 21 points, Josh McGreal had 19 points and nine rebounds & Brady Elder chipped in 11 points and four assits. DSU Men finished the regular season at 8-22 overall, 4-10 in NSAA play. 

 

The Men will be on the round Tuesday night in NSAA Quarterfinal action at Mayville St. The Women will host Dickinson State on Wednesday night at the DSU Fieldhouse.
