DSU Athletes Take Three Of Four NSAA Outdoor Track & Field Honors

DSU athletes took three of the four North Star Athletic Association Outdoor Track & Field honors this week. Tyra Payne was chosen as the NSAA Field Women’s Athlete-of-the-Week, while Josie Wolf was named as the Track Athlete-of-the-Week. 

Payne won a pair of throwing titles at the Bethel Invite last week.  She captured the hammer throw title by throwing 45.26 meters, which is fourth best throw in school history.  She also won the discus throw title by throwing 39.17 meters.

Payne, a junior from Lennox, currently leads the North Star Athletic Association in both hammer and discus throws.

Josie Wolf collected the NSAA Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week award for the second time this season. She finished as a runner-up in the 200-meter dash, and 400-meter dash.

The senior from Chester currently has the best time in the North Star Athletic Association in the 400-meter dash this season. 

On the men’s side,  Conner Tordsen of Dakota State was honored by the North Star Athletic Association as the Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete-of-the-Week.  It was his second straight week and his third time this season that he had received the conference weekly honor.

Tordsen broke his own school record in the hammer throw, with a toss of 61.10. He currently leads in the NSAA conference and ranks fourth nationally in hammer throw.

Tordsen also threw the second-best discus throw in school history, with a mark of 50.28 meters He also leads the North Star Athletic in the discus throw, and ranks second nationally. 

Dakota State will compete in two different meets this weekend.  The runners will travel to the South Dakota Challenge, a 3-day meet from Thursday through Saturday in Vermillion.

The throwing and jumping teams will compete in the NSAA Multi-Events Championships this  Friday and Saturday, in conjunction with the Dewy Donat Open in Aberdeen.
