Day One of South Dakota State Holiday Invite for DSU Women

Two Dakota State women’s athletes made their mark in the school record book yesterday after the first day of the South Dakota State Holiday Invitational and Multi-Events, and numerous DSU women’s athletes had made their collegiate debut at the South Dakota State indoor track & field preseason meet.

Fane Sauvakacolo established a new DSU women’s indoor track & field school record in the triple jump, leaping 10.84 meters (35 feet, 6.75 inches) where she finished fifth overall. She broke her previous school record of 10.83 meters (35 feet, 6.5 inches) last season in the SDSU D2 Open on Jan. 21, 2022.

Lahna Matucha competed in her first pentathlon during her career at DSU, and she collected 512 points in the 60-meter hurdles. She followed up with a sixth-place finish in the high jump with 632 points, clearing the height of 1.51 meters (4 feet, 11.5 inches).

Jada Anderson paced Dakota State with a time of 5:58.24 to finish third in the 1-mile run, and Courtney Meyer followed up with fourth place in 6:53.67.

Three Trojan runners placed in the top 10 in the 800-meters race, led by Lindsey Roth with a fifth-place finish after recording a time of 2:28.30. Saddie Palmquist added a ninth-place finish in 2:3.28, followed by Madelyn Sylva with a 10th-place finish in 2:35.52.

Madissyn Moore leaped 5.06 meters (16 feet, 7.25 inches) to finish 11th in the long jump for DSU. Carson Quigley added a personal record of 4.66 meters (15 feet, 3.5 inches). 

Moore clocked a personal best time of 8.08 seconds in the 60-meter dash prelims. She finished 15th and did not advance to the finals. Raylee Wallis added a time of 8.31 seconds in the 60-meter dash.

A pair of DSU runners competed in a rare 300-meter dash event. Shaylee DeBeer placed 10th with a time of 44.02 seconds. Shakiera Gronenthal added a time of 49.39 seconds in the race.

Oliviyah Thornton led the Trojans with a 14.02 meters weight throw toss (46 feet). Bella Maxwell threw 13.38 meters (43 feet, 10.75 inches), followed by Gabriella Peitzmeier with a personal record toss of 12.79 meters (41 feet, 11.5 inches).

Dakota State won’t return to indoor track & field action until next month when they return to action on Saturday, January 14th, 2023, for the Mount Marty Opener.
