Day One of NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships for Trojans

Five Dakota State athletes were in action on the first day of the 2023 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships yesterday.
Treshawn Roberts competed in the heptathlon for the second straight year for the Trojans, and began the day by hitting a personal record time of 7.23 seconds in the 60-meter dash, finishing fifth in the race. He collected 802 points in the event.
Roberts leaped 21 feet, 5.25 inches in the long jump, and finished fourth overall in the field and earned 704 points. He claimed the best shot-put mark after tossing 42 feet, 8.75 inches for DSU. He scored 668 points in the event and moved into second place in the heptathlon standings.
Roberts remained second in the heptathlon standings after clearing the height of 6 feet, 3.25 inches for 723 points.
Cole Wilson of Keiser leads the heptathlon standings with 3,049 points. Roberts accumulated 2,897 points after the first day, followed by Mason Schleis of Mount Marty third with 2,793 points.
The heptathlon continues Friday morning with three more events, starting with the 60-meter hurdles at 10am. The pole vault will take place after the 60-meter hurdles and close out with the 1000-meter run.
Dakota State made an appearance in the 4×800-meter relay race for the second straight year. This year’s relay team included Curtis Johnson, Roger Oliete Tejedor, Daniel Green, and Evan Slominski. They finished 13th overall with the season-best time of 7 minutes, 47.30 seconds (finished fifth in the first heat).
The DSU men’s 4×800-meter relay team finished with the second fastest time in the school record book. It was the second straight national appearance for Tejedor and Slominski. Johnson and Green made their first appearance at the national indoor track & field meet at DSU.
Dakota State continues their action today with the heptathlon at 10am. Conner Tordsen and Jacob Joachim are set to compete in the weight throw at 12pm.
Fane Sauvakacolo is also competing on Friday for DSU. She is set to run in the 60-meter hurdles at 12:35pm.
