The Dakota State Women’s Basketball team picked up a solid win at home yesterday afternoon, defeating #16 Sterling College 80-69. DSU opened up on a 14-4 run before the Lady Warriors battled back and it was 20 all after one. The two sides battled back and forth in the second and Sterling held a one point lead at the break. Five ties and five lead changes ensued in the third quarter, a late three for the Trojans gave them a 59-57 lead after three.

It was a dominant fourth quarter for DSU, scoring the first eight points and a 21-12 advantage in the quarter to secure the upset. The Trojans shot 50 percent in the contest and held Sterling to 37 percent. Morgan Koepsell went 10-14 from the floor to finish with a game high 23 points to lead the Trojans, while Lindsey Vogl had 11 and Jessi Giles added in 10. 

With the win, DSU stopped a five-game losing streak and picked up a much needed victory, ending a stretch six games playing teams either ranked or receiving votes in the polls. They will be in action after Christmas, traveling to Florida for a pair of games before the New Year.
