Dakota State Wins NSAA Commissioner’s Cup

Dakota State Athletics had a record-breaking 2021-22 athletic season, achieving the highest athletic honor by winning their first-ever North Star Athletic Association Commissioner’s Cup.  The Cup, the all-sports trophy that was established in the 2018-19 season, is awarded to the school with the most points scored across all NSAA sponsoring sports.

Dakota State set the North Star conference record with 84.75 points, dethroning the previous record of 81 points by Dickinson State in 2020-21. Points were awarded for a school’s finish in season-long standings and at NSAA Championship events.

Dakota State collected four NSAA conference titles during the 2021-22 season. The Trojans won a historic four-peat men’s cross-country title, while the men’s indoor track and field team won their third title in the past four seasons, and wrapped up the season by capturing a historic three-peat men’s outdoor track and field conference title.

The Trojan women’s basketball team compiled an impressive 27-1 NSAA conference regular season record in the past two seasons, helping lead them to winning the regular-season title for a second consecutive season..

Dakota State claimed a second-place finish in baseball, the highest placed finisher for the Trojan baseball team since the league was formed in 2013-14.

DSU volleyball and softball programs each collected a third-place finish in the NSAA conference standings. The softball team posted its highest place finisher in the North Star conference since the league was formed.

Dakota State earned third place at the NSAA conference meet in both women’s cross country and women’s outdoor track and field, along with earning second place in indoor track and field.

The Trojan men’s basketball team finished fifth in the conference standings. DSU also competed in the NSAA men’s and women’s golf championships last April.
