Dakota State Athletics Announce Their 2020-21 Award Winners

Dakota State announced its annual awards for 2020-21 on Thursday.

Alex Derr was awarded with the Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year award. The two-time NAIA All-American dominated, earning most valuable athlete at the North Star Indoor Track & Field conference meet and shared the NSAA Outdoor Track Athlete of the Meet award with Brenner Furlong at the conference championships. 

Jessi Giles was voted as the DSU Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year. She was the first Trojan Women’s Basketball player to be named to the NAIA All-America First Team. Giles averaged 17.4 points per game and helped guide the team to the national quarterfinals in the NAIA tournament for the third time in school history. She also competed for the Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Team. 

Samuel Drummond is the 2021 recipient for the Dusty Andersen Memorial Award. The award is presented each year to an outstanding male basketball or baseball player who exhibits active participation in campus activities. Drummond hit .364, scored 36 runs, and crushed seven home runs. 

DSU Esports Player-of-the-Year award went to Daniel Holmstrom of the League of Legends team and Nathan Ord was selected as the DSU Outstanding Esports Member award.
