College Sports Update

The NAIA Council of Presidents (COP) voted on Tuesday to postpone the national championships in cross country, men’s and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball to spring 2021. The decision still allows NAIA conferences to compete in the fall and winter, if they so choose. A decision on the timing of the football national championship will be determined later this week by the COP. Prior to the vote, 51 NAIA individual institutions had already opted to postpone fall competition until spring 2021.

The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference has announced that all of its fall sports will be pushed back to a September start date. Practices for football, as well as men’s and women’s cross country, will begin on September 2nd. Meanwhile, soccer and volleyball for the conference will commence on September 8th. Both Northern State and University of Sioux Falls are members of the NSIC.

Also, the Missouri Valley Football Conference is still planning on games this fall. However, due to decisions made by other conferences, SDSU has lost games on their schedule. The Jackrabbits had their games versus Butler and Nebraska cancelled, so their opener is now scheduled for September 26th versus Indiana State. USD still has all of its games on the schedule, opening up at Iowa State on September 5th.
