Big Halftime Lead Helps Dordt Defeat DSU Men’s Basketball

Earlier this week, Dordt handed the Dakota State Men’s Basketball team their second loss of the season after earning a 12-point halftime lead, beating the Trojans 74-63 at Sanford Pentagon.

Both teams kept it tight early in the contest, with five ties and two lead changes in the first 13 minutes of the game. However, Dordt outscored DSU 14-4 to end the half to give the Defenders a 42-30 lead into the half.

The Trojans came out of the half going on a 5-0 run, however the Defenders were able to maintain their double-digit lead throughout the rest of the game, leading by as much as 16 points. This was even with DSU outscoring Dordt (33-32) in the second half.

Manny N’tula, DSU, led the game in points, scoring 18. N’tula also added 2 rebounds and one block defensively. Sam Muller had a game leading 12 rebounds for the Trojans while adding six points and two assists. 

For the Defenders, Jackson Louscher led with 15 points, four rebounds, and three assists. 

DU shot 43.5 percent overall from the field (27-of-62 field goals) and 5-of-19 from the 3-point arc. DSU was 34.4 percent from the field (21-of-61 field goals) and drained 11 3-pointers in 25 tries. The Defenders outscored the Trojans 36-20 inside the paint.  

DSU’s bench outscored Dordt’s bench 36-26.

Dakota State fell to 1-2 overall record. Dordt stayed undefeated at 3-0 overall record.

The Trojans are off until next Tuesday, November 8th when they visit their in-state rival Mount Marty. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:45pm. at Cimpl Arena in Yankton, SD.
