Day One of State Amateur Baseball

Conner Hopkins held the Lennox bats in check on Wednesday, pitching Winner/Colome to a 3-0 win in the opening game of the Class B State Amatuer Baseball Tournament, at Cadwell Park in Mitchell. 

Hopkins held Lennox to just 4 hits, during a complete game shutout. He did walk 5 batters, but also struck out 11. Billy Stitz, who came from Colman as a pick-up player, had two hits while Drew Sweeter and Chris Kropenske each had one. 

Winner/Colome pushed a run across in the 1st, after loading the bases with a single and two walks. The Pheasants then scored on an error for a 1-0 lead. Austin Calhoon singled in a run in the 5th, and Derek Graesser dropped down an RBI bunt for another run in the 8th. 

Winner/Colome moves on to the next round of the tournament, and will take on Wynot after the Expos picked up a 16-6 win over Corsica/Stickney on Wednesday.
