The Madison City Commission has approved a haul route agreement with the state Department of Transportation regarding the Highway 34-2nd Street reconstruction project. In their meeting Monday, commissioners heard from City Engineer Chad Comes, who explained that the haul route is needed in order for the state to take out the concrete surfacing that’s being removed and to haul in granular base materials for the project.
Comes said the haul route is from the project using Northeast 3rd Street and then going east to the road going south of the Airport Road to the Reinicke pit.
State DOT Engineering Supervisor Greg Aalberg told commissioners that they’ve determined this is the best route for them to use and that if there is any damage done to the roads in the process, it will be their responsibility to repair.
Comes also added that people may occasionally see trucks looping onto some of the side streets, but he said that any trucks doing this will be empty trucks that need to get turned around in order to be loaded again from the project.
