City approves change in zoning ordinance

The Madison City Commission has approved second reading of an ordinance amending a portion of the city’s zoning ordinance.  Commissioners during their meeting Monday approved the second reading of the ordinance that adds an item to the list of principle permitted uses in the city’s Highway Business district.  The ordinance adds retail meat markets to the list of principle permitted uses in that zoning district.

City Engineer Chad Comes told commissioners Monday what the ordinance means.

Comes said that adding this to the list of principle permitted uses in the Highway Business district is similar to other zoning districts in the city.

Comes said that anything considered a principle permitted use in a particular zoning district doesn’t need to come through the commission for approval.
