After a slow start to the Cornbelt season the Madison Broncos have won 4 of their last 5 games, including a 13-0 win in 7 innings last night over Lennox Only One. Brian Miller and Greg Biagi each drove in 4 runs for the Broncos, who pounded out 17 total hits. Miller’s night also included a home run.
Nick Bird scored a run and drove in two, but it was his performance on the mound that stood out. Bird fired a complete game shutout, allowing just 4 hits and striking out 3.
Madison is now 4-4 in league play, and will travel to Canova on Sunday.
Cole Cheeseman had 2 hits, including a homerun, and powered the Salem Cubs to an 8-7 win over the Humboldt-Hartford Wood Ducks on Thursday. Cheeseman drove in 3 and scored 2 runs. Brian Duxbury also had 3 RBI for the Cubs, who trailed 7-5 before scoring 3 runs in the 8th to take the lead.
The Canova Gang stayed unbeaten in Cornbelt play on Thursday, topping Flandreau 14-7 in a rematch of last year’s State Championship game. Canvoa jumped out to an early 8-2 lead after 3 innings. Jared Miller was 2 for 5 with a homerun and 5 RBI. Jared Miller and Justin Miller each scored 3 runs for the Gang. Trey Krier (K-rear) and Derek Miller combined to strikeout 9 Cardinal batters in the game.
