Warriors Dominant Against the Fighting Cougars in 11B Semifinals

In the 11B Semifinal game between McCook Central/Montrose and Winner, the home team dominated the Fighting Cougars, as the Winners Warriors won 46-6 to move on to the 11B State Championship. 

Winner got on the board first midway through the first quarter on a tipped fourth down pass to give them the early 6-0 lead. Warriors went into half up 20-0 after scoring two more touchdowns, gaining a total of 200 first half yards compared to MCM’s 50 yards in the first half.

The Warriors added to their lead in the third quarter, but the visiting Fighting Cougars offense started to gain some momentum, marching down the field to score their first touchdown of the game on a fourth down pass.

However, Winner answered on the following kickoff, returning it to the house to go up 34-6, and from there the Warriors continued to pile it on as they went on to score two more touchdowns in the final quarter to win by a final score of 46-6. 

McCook Central/Montrose finished the season 9-2, with the Winner handing them only their second loss of the season. Meanwhile, for Winner they will take their undefeated record to the DakotaDome in Vermillion, SD, where they will play Elk Point-Jefferson for the 11B State Championship next Friday, November 11th at 2:30pm. 

This is Winner’s fourth straight trip to the state championship, and will be looking for their third straight championship.
