Tigers Win Final Game to End Season in Seventh Place

Over the weekend the Howard Girls basketball team was able to earn a seventh place finish in the Class B State Tournament after their win over Sully Buttes.

Sully Buttes led by as much as three points midway through the first quarter, but after giving up the lead to Howard, the Tigers held on to it for the rest of the game. 

Howard led 16-8 after the first quarter and added 19 more points before halftime to go up 35-22 at the break. 

The Tigers had their largest lead of the game in the third quarter, leading by 22 points as they outscored the Chargers 13-6 in the third. Despite getting outscored by ten points in the final quarter, Howard was able to win by double-digits with a final score of 54-44 to earn a seventh place finish in the Class B Girls Basketball State Tournament.

Abby Aslesen led the Tigers with a double-double, with 19 points on 7-15 shooting, and ten rebounds. She also added four assists.

Kate Connor tied Aslesen for the game lead in points as she also scored 19 for the Tigers, shooting 9-20 from the field. Connor added four rebounds and two steals. 

Stevie Wittler had a team-leading 17 points for Sully Buttes, while Allyson Wittler finished with ten points. 

Howard outshot Sully Buttes, going 22-57 from the floor while the Chargers went 15-52. Sully Buttes did get more shots from deep though, shooting 6-19 from three-point range compared to 2-15 for Howard.

The Tigers also had a big advantage rebounding, as they outrebounded the Chargers 40-24.

Howard finishes the season seventh place in Class B with an overall record of 20-6 after entering the tournament as the seventh ranked team in Class B. Sully Buttes, meanwhile, also ends the season with an overall record of 20-6 after ending the regular season as the third ranked team in Class B.
