Strong Eighth Innings Helps Cardinals Prevail Over Wood Ducks

In an attempt to get their second Cornbelt victory of the year, the Humboldt-Hartford Wood Ducks were in striking distance, until a strong eighth inning from the Flandreau Cardinals.

The game was low scoring early on, with only three total runs from the two squads after four innings. The Cardinals grabbed one run in both the second and third innings, while the Wood Ducks ran in their first score in the bottom of the fourth.

The Cardinals then extended their lead to 3-1 in the top of the sixth after getting another run on the board. Then came the eighth inning.

In the top of the eighth, the Cardinals scored five runs in the inning, breaking away from the Wood Ducks with a score of 8-1. Wood Ducks were able to score three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning, but that would be all the scoring for the rest of the evening.

With neither team getting a run in the ninth, the Cardinals were able to outlast the Wood Ducks with a final score of 8-4, in a game that was much closer than the score may show.

On Thursday this week, Flandreau will travel to Salem to play the Cubs, meanwhile the Wood Ducks will be on the road when they play Dell Rapids PBR.
