Salem Cubs Grab First Win of Season Against Dell Rapids PBR

The Salem Cubs were able to grab their first win of the season on Sunday when they downed Dell Rapids PBR.

Cole Cheeseman  got the Cubs on the board first in the opening inning, before more runs followed in the second, thanks to a two-run RBI from Issac Anderson bringing in Tyler Cleveland and Bobby Koepsall to take a 3-0 lead at the end of the second inning.

On PBR’s side, they struggled to get a hit early, having three straight quick 1-2-3 innings, and not getting on base until the top of the fourth. They got their first run of the game in the fifth thanks to a run from Taegan Schlimgen.

The Cubs quickly answered back, getting two more runs in the bottom of the fifth, extending their lead to 5-1.

PBR’s Riley Hoffman hit a home run out of right-center field in the top of the sixth, bringing them closer to the Cubs, but the Cubs would get at least one run for the next three innings, leading them to beat PBR with a final score of 10-3.

Cole Cheeseman led the way for the Cubs, getting two hits and three runs. Kyle Tuschen got two hits as well, along with two RBI’s. Other players to get runs for the Cubs were Brian Duxbury (2 and 1 RBI), Tyler Earls (1 and 1 RBI), Tyler Cleveland (1 and 1 RBI), Bobby Koepsall (1), Issac Anderson (1 and 2 RBI), and Dylan Klirkhammer (1).

Outside of Hoffman’s homer for PBR and Schlimgen’s run in the fifth, Connor Spindler was able to get a run and two hits, and Beau Behrend got an RBI and two hits.

Pitching battle went in Salem’s favor as well, with Cubs starting pitcher, Issac Anderson, allowing five hits and two runs, while PBR pitcher, Trey Randal, had nine hits and five runs. Randal had two more strikeouts than Anderson though, striking out six batters to Anderson’s four.
