Salem Cubs End First Cornbelt v Sunshine Game With A Walk Off

The Salem Cubs finished the first game of the Cornbelt v Sunshine Tournament against the Corsica/Stickney Horned Frogs last night in exciting fashion, getting the walk-off run in the bottom of the ninth. 

Hits were hard to acquire early in the contest for both teams with each team only registering one run after four innings, with the Horned Frogs scoring the first run of the game in the top of the third, and the Cubs getting their first run in the bottom of the fourth. 

Corsica/Stickney then brought in two runs in the top of the fifth before Salem got a run in both the fifth and sixth innings, tying the game back up at three a piece. Corsica/Stickney had another two run inning in the seventh. 

Salem tied the game up again in the bottom of the eighth with two more runs in the inning, before heading into the ninth tied 5-5. 

In the bottom of the ninth in a tied ball game, Kyle Tuschen hit a walk-off Single that brought in the game winning run, leading the Cubs to win the first game of the Cornbelt v Sunshine Tournament with a final score of 6-5.

Issac Anderson and Steve Mehlbrech each led the Cubs in hits with two hits a piece, and each also getting an RBI. Mehlbrech brought in a run as well. Tuschen, Cole Cheeseman, Peyton Cleveland, Tyler Earls, Trevor Wilkinson, and Raygen Randall each got hits, with all besides Randall and Tuschen  also getting a run. Anderson, Tuschen and Earls all had one RBI. 

In seven innings pitched, Mehlbrech gave up eleven hits, five runs, and two errors. Mehlbrech did strike out two batters. 

For the Horned Frogs, Luke Bamberg and Blake Moke both had three runs each, with Bamberg also getting two runs and an RBI. Mason VanVuuren, Caleb Crist, and Kris Menning had two hits, with VanVurren batting in two runs and Menning with one RBI. Crist registered one run for the Horned Frogs also. 

On the mound for the Horned Frogs, Gavin Zomer threw three strikeouts while also giving up four runs on eight hits in seven innings pitched.
