Looking to get back to the Class A State Basketball Tournament, the ninth seeded Fighting Cougars of McCook Central/Montrose battled eighth Aberdeen Roncalli at the Huron Arena last night. It was a defensive-minded first half, as Roncalli led 8-6 after the first quarter and MCM held a 16-15 advantage at the break. The Fighting Cougars came out and controlled most of the third quarter, building their lead to 30-22 with around one minute left. The momentum in the game took a huge swing in favor of the Lady Cavaliers.

After a free throw to pull within seven, Roncalli got the ball for the final shot of the quarter and got a runner to pull within five. They would then score the first six points of the fourth quarter to lead 31-30. With the score then being tied at 32, the Lady Cavs would dominate the rest of the way and went on to win 47-35. Both teams shot under thirty percent in the game and at times struggled from the free-throw line. Madisen Koepsell led MCM with 21 points and Abigail Van Ruler pulled down 13 rebounds. McCook Central/Montrose finished their season with a 17-5 record.
