McCook Central/Montrose & Howard Split Doubleheader In Salem
Howards and McCook Central/Montrose split a Varsity doubleheader last night in Salem, with MCM winning the girls game, 59-38, and Howard taking the boys game 55-44.Â
In the girls game, both sides were tied at eight a piece after one quarter of play. The Fighting Cougars then took control of the contest, using an 11-0 run in the second quarter, to lead 29-14 at halftime. The lead would grow to as much as 29 in the second half, before the two sides traded buckets. Madisen Koepsell led McCook with 21 points in the contest and Jayce Pulse had 15. Howard’s Hilary Albrecht had 12 points and Emma Rudebusch (ruda-busch) had 12 points off the bench with four three pointers.Â
The boys game saw Howard get out to an early advantage and held MCM in the first half to 16 points. The Tigers lead built to 19 points in the second half but the Cougars battled back to make it a 10 point game with just under two minutes left. An and-one play gave Howard back the momentum and they were able to come away with the win. McCook Central/Montrose was led by Issac McCormick with 14 points and Collin Kolbeck with 12 and 13 rebounds, Tisyn (tyson) Spader led Howard with 18 points/8 rebounds and Sam Aslesen had 14 points.Â
Both of the girls teams are off untill the 2020. Howard Boys play in Mitchell next Friday and MCM hosts Bon Homme today.Â
