Howard Girls Team Advanced to Class B State Tournament

After beating Wessington Springs last night, the Howard Tigers girls basketball team advanced to the Class B State Tournament.

The Tigers controlled the game early, taking the lead and running with it while only allowing one point to Wessington Springs in the opening quarter. Howard added 22 more points in the second to take a 33-7 lead into halftime. 

With the large lead at halftime, Howard was able to cruise through the second half. Despite getting outscored in the half, the Tigers still won by 21 points with a final score of 61-40.

Howard did most of their damage from deep, hitting with 11 of their 19 total made shots coming from three-point range.

Four players hit double-digits for the Tigers, as they were led by Riley Rudebusch’s 13 points. She also had four rebounds and two steals.

Dakota Spader added 11 points and six rebounds, followed by Abby Aslesen and Trinity Palmquist who each had ten points and two steals each. Aslesen also grabbed seven rebounds. 

Carissa Scheel led Wessington Springs with 13 points and nine rebounds. 

Howard was 19-44 shooting from the field, and 11-18 from deep. Wessington Springs, meanwhile, was only 14-61 from the field and made just two of their 16 three-point attempts. 

With the SODAK 16 win, the Tigers moved on to the Class B State Tournament and will return to the Huron Arena next week on Thursday, March 9th for a rematch against Vibrog-Hurley. Howard’s game next week is scheduled to tip-off at 7:45pm, and the game can be heard on FM 103.1 or online at AmazingMadison.com.
