Despite the McCook/Central Montrose Girls Basketball team getting out to the early lead, the Howard Tigers were able to extend their winning streak five with a 51-42 victory over the Fighting Cougars.
MCM led Howard 16-10 after the first quarter, but after the Fighting Cougars gave up 15 points in the second quarter, the Tigers took a 25-22 lead into halftime.
Howard came out of the intermission hot, scoring double the amount of points MCM did in the quarter, outscoring the Fighting Cougars 12-6 in the quarter to extend their lead to 37-28 heading into the fourth.
Both teams went back and forth in the final quarter, but with both teams scoring 14 points in the quarter, MCM was unable to regain the lead as they fell to Howard 51-42.
Abby Asleesen for Howard led the game with a double-double, scoring 18 points and securing 12 rebounds. Kate Connor added ten points for the Tigers along with five rebounds.
Aubree Kranz led the way for MCM with 11 points and four rebounds, followed by Abby Wagner’s ten points and four rebounds as well.
McCook Central/Montrose will return home tomorrow after falling to 6-5 to host Chester Area. Meanwhile, Howard, who is now 11-2, will hit the road and play at Ethan on Friday night.
