Gamecocks, Gang Advance To State Am Quarters

8/12/20 –

The Hartford/Humboldt Gamecocks and Canova Gang both punched their tickets to quarterfinal action at the State Amateur Baseball Tournament with wins on Tuesday night at Cadwell Park in Mitchell. The Gamecocks jumped out to a 9-0 advantage after two innings and held for a 9-7 win over Redfield. Cam Quigley and Noah Ventress each collected a pair of hits, Drew Eldeen pitched into the ninth inning and the Gamecocks were able to seal the victory with the tying run on-base.

Meanwhile, Canova busted out the lumber and defeated Dell Rapids PBR in eight innings, 11-1. Trey Krier had four hits in the game for the Gang and Derek Miller struck out seven batters on the mound. That sets up a Cornbelt quarterfinal showdown as Hartford/Humboldt and Canova will match-up on Friday evening, with the winner moving onto semifinal play.

Coming up this evening, the Salem Cubs will look to join the aforementioned teams in the quarters. Salem will take on Larchwood, Iowa in the first game. Start time is 5:30 and can be heard on AM1390. Cornbelt results at the State Am and upcoming broadcast schedule can be found at the Cornbelt page.
