Emery Larson and Jovi Wolf Lead Chester Area to Wins in Double Header

In their double header against Oldham-Ramona/Rutland, both Chester Area Flyers basketball teams took care of business at home with the girls getting the 79-67 victory and the boys winning 75-35.

Both sides kept it close in the first quarter of the girls game, with the two teams tied at 21-21 heading into the second.

After getting ten points in the first quarter, Emery Larson continued to have a big half in the second quarter, adding 13 more as Chester Area took a 15 point lead into halftime up 47-32. 

Larson finished the first half with 23 points.

The Raiders attempted to comeback in the third quarter, bringing it back within four points heading into the final quarter, with the Flyers leading 56-52. However, the Flyers went off again in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Raiders 23-15 in the quarter to get the 79-67 victory.

Larson finished with 39 points for Chester Area, along with six rebounds. Emmerson Eppard added 22 points and seven rebounds, as the Flyers had two girls go over 20 points in the game.

Leading the way for ORR was Julia Trygstad who had a double-double, ending with 24 points and 12 rebounds. ORR also had two players score 20 or more points, with Brooklyn Hageman scoring 20 points and securing ten rebounds as she had a double-double as well.

With Jovi Wolf scoring 20 points in the first quarter of the boys game for Chester Area, the Flyers were able to get the 25-12 lead over ORR and never look back, as the Flyers added 13 more points in the second quarter to take a 38-21 halftime lead. 

The Flyers didn’t let up coming out of halftime, scoring 24 more points in the third quarter while only allowing 11 to the Raiders. Chester took a 30 point lead heading into the final quarter up 62-32. 

ORR could only score three more points in the final quarter, as the Chester boys team also got the home victory, defeating ORR by a final score of 75-35. 

Wolf finished the game with 25 points for the Flyers, and Layke Wold scored 20 points. 

Caden Hojer led ORR with a double-double, scoring 15 points and getting 10 rebounds. 

The win over the Raiders was the fourth win of the season for the Chester Area girls team, as they got to 4-12 with the win. The ORR girls team fell to 6-11 after the loss.

For the boys, it was the Flyers fourth win in their last five games, giving them a 7-11 record. Meanwhile the Raiders dropped their fifth straight as they now have a 1-15 record. 

Next for the two teams, Chester’s boys team will head to Flandreau tomorrow night, while the girls team plays in Canistota on Friday. For the ORR, the girls will go to De Smet on Friday, while the ORR’s boys returns home on Saturday with a game against Freeman Academy-Marion.

KJAM’s final regular season area basketball game is next Tuesday, February 14th, when the McCook Central/Montrose boys host Tri-Valley.Â
