Dell Rapids St. Mary Sweeps Chester Area

In a boys/girls doubleheader to kick-off area sports for the week, the Cardinals of Dell Rapids St. Mary picked up a sweep in Varsity action on Monday night. In the first contest, the Lady Cardinals used a strong first quarter to pick up a 53-37 victory. St. Mary led 23-8 after one and 33-13 at halftime. Ella Griffin had 20 points for the victors and Ella Heintz provided 18. Chester Area was led by Emmerson Eppard with 10 points. The Flyers fell to 1-5 on the season and are scheduled to be back in action today at the Huron Classic, taking on Jones County.

The nightcap saw a similar scenario unfold. The Cardinals slowly built a 13 point lead at half time (30-17) and poured things on in the second half, running away with a 70-35 victory. Connor Libis poured in 26 points for DRSM, Max Herber had a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Chester Area had Stratton Eppard and Brock Wages with 10 points each.

Chester Boys are now 2-4 and will host Estelline/Hendricks on Thursday at 1pm.
