Dell Rapids Mudcats Attempt to Get Back on Track Against the Lennox Alpacas

The Dell Rapids Mudcats traveled to Lennox to play the Alpacas with hopes of getting back on track after losing last week to the Flandreau Cardinals, but the Alpacas had other plans in mind.

Drew Sweeter for the Alpacas got the first run of the game in the bottom of the first, but the Mudcats soon answered with a run of their own in the top of the second.

The game remained tied up until the bottom of the seventh, when Cam Wolf’s bunt to lead off the inning helped the Alpacas get things rolling. Four of the next five batters would get on base for the Alpacas, leading them to score four runs in the inning.

The Mudcats had no answer for the Alpacas four run inning, with back-to-back quick innings to end the night. The Alpacas took down the defending champions 5-1 and advanced to 4-1 on the season and dropped the Mudcats to 3-2.

Sweeter had two runs on two hits and an RBI and Cory Vasquez for the Alpacas had two hits of his own, getting one run and an RBI as well. Logan Stone led the Mudcats in hitting, getting two hits in the game.

The Mudcats will host the Madison Broncos on Sunday, meanwhile the Alpacas will head up and play the Humboldt-Hartford Wood Ducks.Â
