Canova Gang Shuts Out the Colman A’s

The Canova Gang grabbed the shut out victory yesterday, defeating the Colman A’s 7-0.
Both teams were scoreless after the first two innings, before Canova scored their first two runs in the bottom of the third on Riley Genzlinger’s Sacrifice Fly and Justin Miller’s RBI Single.
For the next four innings both teams again went scoreless. That was until a large eighth inning from the Gang, as they broke the game open with five runs.
After being forced to make a pitching change with two straight hits, including a large double in the eighth, Colman went on to allow the next four batters to get on base. Miller also had a huge three-run home run in the inning to give Canova the seven run advantage.
With the A’s unable to score in the ninth, the Gang grabbed their second win of the season with a 7-0 final.
Miller finished with two hits and four RBI’s for Canova in four at-bats. Genzlinger also had two hits along with two RBI’s. Jason Miller also provided two hits. Cole and Tim Gassman both had one hit and two runs.
Deon Entringer along with Carter and Corey Roach each had one hit for Colman.
Canova had ten total hits and seven runs and also four errors. Colman had three hits with no runs and two errors.
Pitching for the Gang, and grabbing the win, was Trey Kreier, who went four innings of two-hit ball and two errors while striking out five. Tim and Cole Gassman each had three strikeouts and no hits allowed in their two innings each of pitching. Justin Miller closed out the game allowing one hit.
Taking the loss on the mound for the A’s was Ian Barker, pitching 7 1/3 innings. He gave up seven hits and two runs along with an error and three walked batters. Barker struck out three. Deon Entringer relieved for the A’s for 2 1/3 innings, giving up five runs on three hits while striking out two.
Canova will next host the Humboldt-Hartford Gamecocks on Thursday, May 25th, while Colman stays on the road when they played the Humboldt-Hartford Wood Ducks also on Thursday. Colman’s game Thursday can be heard on FM 103.1 or online at AmazingMadison.com.
