Canova Clips Salem

The Canova Gang used an early lead to defeat their rivals on Wednesday night, 3-1 in Canova. Using a run in the first and a run in the second was all the Gang would need, getting eight and a third innings from starter Derek Miller. Miller scattered nine hits, struck out 11 and walked two batters. Salem scored a run in the sixth inning to pull within one, Canova got an insurance run in the eighth inning and set up for a thrilling top of the ninth.

Miller was pulled after getting one out and Justin Miller came into close out the game for the Gang. Salem was able to load the bases with two down, but a strike out would end the contest and give Canova the victory. Garret Gassman drove in a pair for Canova, Anthony Tuschen had the lone RBI for Salem. The Cubs starting pitcher, David Kirby, went seven innings while allowing just three hits, walked four and struck out eight.

Last night’s game was the lone Corbelt League match-up. Four more games are on tap tonight: Madison hosts Dell Rapids PBR, Hartford/Humboldt Gamecocks travel to Colman, Lennox is at home versus Flandreau and Dell Rapids Mudcats welcome in Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks.Â
