Broncos Season Ends at the Start of Round Two of States

The Broncos started both the first and second rounds of the Class B Amateur Baseball State Tournament in Mitchell, SD, although the second round was not as successful for the Broncos as the first was.

In the second round of the tournament, the Broncos came out cold against the Garretson Blue Jays. The Blue Jays got a run in each of the first two innings before the Broncos even had two hits. The Blue Jays added two more runs in the fourth.

After going four straight quick innings, with each inning only seeing three batters take the plate, the Broncos scored their lone run of the game in the top of the eighth off of Josh Giles sac-fly bringing in Aspen Dahl.

For the Blue Jays, after going scoreless through the next three innings, with a 4-0 lead heading into the eighth the Blue Jays exploded. They brought in seven total runs in the inning, and enacted the ten run rule after Jesse Brockhouse’s 3 RBI’s finished the game off for the Blue Jays, ending the Broncos season with an 11-1 score in eight-innings.

Dahl got the loss for the Broncos, who allowed four runs on seven hits through five innings, while also walking seven. Mitch McNary came in for relief, pitching 2 ⅔ innings of five hit ball and allowing four runs as well and walking four.

Both pitchers struck out three batters each.

The win went to Joey Fitzgerald for Garrettson, who pitched the entire game, only giving up four hits and a run, while striking out six.
