Broncos Give Up the Lead Late to the Gamecocks

In their season opener yesterday, the Madison Broncos lost the lead late to the Humboldt-Hartford Gamecocks, falling 7-3.

Mitch McNary got the scoring started with a 2-Run Homerun for the Broncos in the opening inning, to grab the early 2-0 lead.

The Gamecocks registered their first run in the bottom of the sixth to cut into the lead at 2-1. Then in the bottom of the seventh, the Gamecocks tallied up six-runs to grab the lead at 7-2 and not look back.

The Broncos were able to add one more run in the top of the ninth, but that would be all they could bring in as they fell 7-3.

Nate Ricke took the loss for Madison after surrendering five runs on four hits over two innings. He also struck two out and walked one.

Getting the win was Brandon McKnight, who allowed no runs and one hit in four innings, while striking out 11 and walking one.

McNary had one hit and two RBI’s for Madison. Heith Williams also added a hit for the Broncos.

Madison had two total hits compared to five for Humboldt-Hartford.

The Broncos will next play at Lennox on Thursday night, while the Gamecocks host the Wood Ducks. Both games are scheduled to start at 7:30pm.
