2020 District 4B Amateur Baseball Tournament Gets Underway

The 2020 District 4B Amateur Baseball Tournament is well underway after a weekend full of games. Saturday featured four quarterfinal match-ups in the tournament. Our first game saw Madison rally for two runs in the top of the ninth to tie the Dell Rapids Mudcats, but the Mudcats got a walk-off hit to win 4-3. The next game was a wild affair, as Flandreau held on for a 14-12 win over the Wood Ducks of Hartford/Humboldt. The Cardinals led 14-4 in the seventh, then the Wood Ducks rallied and had the tying run on before the final out in the bottom of the ninth. Game three saw Dell Rapids PBR stun the one seeded Lennox Only One Alpacas 8-0. PBR jumped out early with two runs in the top of the first and didn’t look back. In the night cap, Salem and Canova battled things out, with the Gang coming away with an 11-7 score.

On Sunday, in elimination games, Madison defeated Colman 5-3 and the Gamecocks defeated the Wood Ducks 7-0. Greg Biagi smacked a solo home run for the Broncos and Heith Williams collected five hits to lead Madison. Cole Barthel went the distance on the mound for the Gamecocks, allowing just one hit, walking three and striking out six.

Tonight is an off night for the tournament. Tomorrow, Tuesday, we have our two semifinal games. At 6pm, Dell Rapids PBR takes on Flandreau and Canova faces off against the Dell Rapids Mudcats.
