Broncos and Canova pick up Cornbelt wins

The Madison Broncos won their final home game of the regular season on Thursday, with a 7-4 comeback win over the Flandreau Cardinals. Madison trailed quickly after Flandreau knocked out a solo homerun in the 1st. By the bottom of the 6th inning Flandreau had taken a 4-0 lead. The Broncos then put up a run in the 6th, and four in the 7th to take the lead. Brian Miller provided the biggest hit, with a 3-run homer. Jacob Giles added a double and 2 RBI.

Mitch McNary picked up the win, tossing 3 scoreless innings in relief of starter Nick Bird. The Broncos improved to 11-6 in the Cornbelt league, with Flandreau falling to 5-8.

The Canova Gang is a win away from a perfect league record, after picking up a 12-1 win over the Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks on Thursday night. Derek Miller threw 5 innings, and Jared Miller had 3 RBI for Canova. Tim and Cole Gassman each drove in a run, in the Gang’s 17th win of the Cornbelt season. Sunday’s final game before the District Tournament will see Canova host Flandreau in a rematch of last year’s State Championship game.
