Madison Police warn of phone scam

The Madison Police Department is warning residents about a scam phone call.

Police have received a report of a scam phone call that a Madison resident received, where the caller stated that he or she was calling from the City of Madison and threatened to shut off their power if they didn’t pay their utility bill immediately.

The police department says the City of Madison does not conduct business in this manner.  The City will send notices to residents in the mail.  Police say anyone receiving a phone call like this should hang up immediately.

Anyone with questions about a Madison city utility bill can call 256-7504 to check its status.
