Volga bats too for Madison to recover in non-league loss for Broncos

Volga’s hot bats did not miss a beat against the Madison Broncos for a 12-2 victory in 7 innings Tuesday night in non-league play. The Cormorants grabbed a quick 5-0 lead off Madison starter Drew Pierson. Volga went scoreless in the 2nd inning before adding 5 more runs in the 3rd.

Brian Miller got the Broncos on the board with a solo home run in the 4th. Mitch McNary followed up with a RBI sacrifice fly in the 5th but that was all Madison scored. The Broncos finished with 5 hits in their 3rd consecutive loss.

Cole Gross pitched all 7 innings for Volga and struck out 9 batters for the win. Zach Poetz hit a 2-run home run for the Cormorants. Jon Waba hit a double for Broncos, who fall to 10-8 overall. Madison takes their 8-6 Cornbelt League back to Flynn Field on Thursday, where they will play host to Humboldt/Hartford.

The Colman A’s pounded out 16 hits Tuesday night, in a 14-5 win over Dell Rapids PBR. Colman’s Deion Entringer was 3 for 6 with a 3-run homerun. Billy Stitz also had 3 hits, one of the six A’s players with a multi-hit night. Tim Koppel pitched 7 innings to earn the win, helping Colman improve to 5-9. Dell Rapids PBR fell to 5-10
