City approves vacating portion of street near DSU campus

The Madison City Commission has approved a resolution vacating a portion of a street north of the Dakota State University campus.  DSU requested that a portion of Northeast 10th Street be vacated by the city in order for the university to develop the property.  Dick Ericsson appeared before commissioners on behalf of DSU on Monday.  He said the area to be vacated is the part of Northeast 10th Street that is between the right of way line on the west side of North Washington Avenue and the right of way line on the East side of North Lee Avenue.  Ericsson said DSU will use the area for future development.

Mayor Roy Lindsay said that vacating the street makes sense for the city to do.

Ericsson said the university owns the property on either side of the portion of the street that commissioners approved to be vacated.
