City declares police vehicle surplus for sale to county

Madison City Commissioners have approved declaring a police vehicle as surplus in order to sell it to Lake County.  Police Chief Justin Meyer told commissioners during their meeting Monday that the vehicle is a 2011 Crown Victoria with just more than 85-thousand miles on it.  He said that the vehicle was previously used by School Resource Officer Ben Gant and needs some work, but it’s something that Lake County Sheriff Tim Walburg is interested in for his department.

Mayor Roy Lindsay asked Meyer what his department has received previously when selling vehicles like this that have been declared as surplus.

Commissioner Mike Waldner said he thinks this is a good deal that helps out both departments.

Lake County Commissioners last week gave Sheriff Walburg permission to purchase the city’s surplus patrol vehicle if the city commission approved the cost and its proposed sale.
