Summer block parties planned for downtown Madison

Madison area residents could have another entertainment option this summer.  The Greater Madison Area Chamber of Commerce and the Lake Area Improvement Corporation are planning to hold summer block parties on Egan Avenue in Madison on six different Tuesdays in July and August.  Chamber Executive Director Eric Hortness met with Madison City Commissioners during their meeting Tuesday requesting temporary retail (on-off sale) malt beverage and retail (on-off sale) wine licenses for the two organizations for the events.

Hortness said that the Chamber and the LAIC are planning to close the 100-block of North Egan Avenue in Madison from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, July 17th, 24th, and 31st, and also August 14th, 21st, and 28th.  He said they are having someone help plan the events for this year.

Hortness said the summer block parties will include a variety of things.

Hortness said that everything will be cleaned up and the street open again by 10:00 on the nights of the parties.

Commissioners on Tuesday acknowledged the temporary alcohol license applications and set a hearing date for them for June 11th.
