Commissioners approve hiring of deputy sheriffs, seasonal highway worker

Lake County Commissioners took action on some personnel items within the county’s Sheriff’s Office and Highway Department during their meeting on Tuesday.

Commissioners acknowledged the Sheriff’s Office’s termination of its jail administrator, effective April 27th, and also accepted the resignation of Roger Olson as a part-time Correctional Officer effective May 31st.  Sheriff Tim Walburg also asked for the commission’s approval of the hiring of two deputy sheriffs.  Commissioners approved the hiring of Ryan McVey and Craig S. Williams as deputies, effective May 14th, at rates of $17.50 an hour.  Walburg said that McVey and Williams previously worked at the Lake County Jail, so the Sheriff’s Office will advertise for two new full-time correctional officers.   He said that the jail administrator’s position will be handled internally within the Sheriff’s Office.

Commissioners Tuesday also approved the hiring of a seasonal employee for the county’s Highway Department.  Mike O’Connell will start seasonal work as a Heavy Equipment Operator on June 4th at a rate of $17.09 an hour.  Highway Superintendent Dave Fedeler also received approval from commissioners to advertise for additional seasonal positions, as well as for the two full-time Heavy Equipment Operator positions that the department has open currently.
