Resolution about “Convention of the States” passes out of committee

A Senate Joint Resolution that calls for a “Convention of the States” under Article Five of the US Constitution passed out of the South Dakota Senate State Affairs Committee on Monday.

Former Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn appeared before the committee in support of the resolution. He says it is about reversing the flow of power to Washington.

Representative David Johnson is opposed to the idea of a convention.

Representative Lynne DiSanto says the convention is needed now.

The bill passed out of committee on a vote of seven to two, and it is now headed to the Senate floor.
