Madison City Commission to Discuss Parking Restrictions

The Madison City Commission will hold its first meeting of April tonight at 5:30. On the agenda for Commissioners is a continued discussion of parking restrictions on Egan Ave. Currently, parking is allowed at any time on all City streets except when the City declares a snow emergency .Due to numerous snow events this winter, ice and snow has piled onto areas of street and sidewalk. City staff regularly receive questions, comments, and concerns from downtown property owners, business owners, and downtown visitors regarding snow removal activities. In response, staff generated a proposal to allow for improved street maintenance.

In response the city is considering an overnight parking restriction on Egan Avenue from N 2nd Street to S 2nd Street between the hours of 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM. This change would be effective April 17 th or as soon thereafter as appropriate signage can be placed.Such a parking restriction would allow for efficient street maintenance before the arrival of many vehicles in the area.

Also today, the commission will authorize the mayor to sign a contract with Sodexo for  concessions at the Madison Aquatic Center, approve a  Flynn and Thue field usage agreement with DSU, and award a bid for Electric Distribution Conversion to Dakota Directional LLC.

The Madison City Commission meeting begins today at 5:30 in the Commission room at Madison City Hall.Â
