Trojan Volleyball gives scare to #1 Viterbo, falls in straight sets

Dakota State University Volleyball faced the #1 ranked team in the nation in Viterbo University Friday night. The Trojans gave the V-Hawks a run for their money but still fell in straight sets with neither team gaining an advantage in any set.

Dakota State came back in the opening set to tie the match at 23-23. The V-Hawks scored the final two points to win the first set 26-24 in a see-saw battle. Viterbo pushed the tempo in their favor with a dominating 25-12 second set win over the Trojans. Viterbo put the match away in a nail-biting 25-21 third set to win the match three sets to zero. Hannah Erickson of Viterbo had a match-high 12 kills and Amelia Grahn finished with 40 assists.

Sami Zell posted 7 kills to lead the Trojans and Maddie Polzin added another 5 kills. Rachel Johnson finished with 14 assists and Kendra Steffen had 11 assists for DSU. Now 4-18 overall and 2-5 in the North Star Conference standings, Dakota State stays on road and faces Waldorf University this afternoon. First serve is set for 1pm from Forest City, Iowa.
