Madison Girls tennis continued to keep their season alive with strong performances on the second day of the State Tennis Tournament in Sioux Falls. Cooler and rain-filled weather forced the matches to be played indoors but that did not deter the Bulldogs from making a statement on Day 2.
In Flight 2, CC Graham fell 10-1 to #1 seed Ava Leonard of Sioux Falls Lincoln in the championship quarterfinals. Graham fell into the 5th place semifinals where she defeated Watertown’s Abbi Cummings 8-3 to face Joesphine Krajewski of Yankton in the 5th place match at 10:15am this morning. Emma Kruger in Flight 3 and Lilly Wolff in Flight 5 fell in their consolation quarterfinal matches to end their seasons.
Mya Maxwell defeated Jennifer Appl of Aberdeen Central 8-1 in the Flight 4 consolation quarters before losing in the semifinals 8-5 to Annabelle Schultz of Brandon Valley to close her singles run. Maxwell teamed up with Lilly Wolff to defeat a team from Brandon Valley 8-2 to move into the Flight 2 consolation semifinals. Morgan Wray and CC Graham defeated are also in consolation semifinals in Flight 1. Both Madison doubles team will play at 8am Saturday morning.
Madison remains in 15th place out of the 23 teams through two days of the State Tournament with 115 points. Sioux Falls Lincoln is 1st with 530 points and Sioux Falls O’Gorman is 2nd with 435 points.
