Conservation Corner for Friday, October 6th

Fall hunting seasons are opening in South Dakota. Below you can find season dates as well as shooting hours. Plus, information on South Dakota hunting lisences and an interactive map of South Dakota Public Hunting Lands.

Morning Dove: Sept. 1 – Nov. 9, 2017 Daily Limit of  15 birds. Possession Limit of 45.

Canada Goose: Unit Map Unit 1 Season runs Sept. 2 – Dec. 17, 2017. Daily Limit of 15 birds, from Sept. 2-30; 8 birds from Oct. 1 – Dec. 18. Possession Limit of three times the daily limit, taken according to daily limit.

Unit 2 Season runs Nov. 6, 2017 – Feb. 18, 2018. Daily Limit of 4 birds, Possession Limit of three times the daily limit, taken according to the daily limit.

Unit 3 Season runs Oct. 21 – Dec. 24, 2017 and Jan. 13 – 21, 2018 Daily Limit of 4 birds, Possession Limit of three times the daily limit, taken according to the daily limit.

Fall Light Goose: Includes snows, blues, Ross’, and all other geese except Canada, brants, and white-fronted geese. Season runs from Sept. 30, 2017 – Jan. 12, 2018. Daily Limit of 50 birds, Possession Limit unlimited.

Duck: See Map   Low Plains Middle & North Zones- Season rusn Sept. 30 – Dec. 12, 2017. Daily limit is 6 ducks, and comprised of no more than:

  • 5 Mallards, which may include no more than 2 hens
  • 3 Scaup
  • 3 Wood Ducks
  • 2 Redheads
  • 1 Pintail
  • 2 Canvasbacks

2 Bonus blue-winged teal (first 16 days of season only)

Mergansers: 5 (including no more than 2 hooded merganser)

Coots: 15

Youth Pheasant Season: October 7-11, 2017. Daily limit of 3 rooster pheasants.

Resident Only Pheasant: October 14-16, 2017. Daily limit of 3 rooster pheasants.

Full Pheasant Season: Oct. 21, 2017 – Jan. 7, 2018. Daily limit of 3 rooster pheasants.
