Three Madison errors led to 8 unanswered runs in the 4th inning for the Alexandria Angels in the Class B State quarterfinals Friday night. Defending Class B State Champion Alexandria defeated the Broncos 12-2 in 7 innings with 11 total hits and capitalized on those untimely errors.
Madison got off to good start in the game scoring Danny Flahie in the top of the 3rd off pick-up player Justin Miller’s double. Flahie brought in another run for the Broncos with a bases loaded groundout in the 4th. Alexandria got themselves on the board with those 8 runs in the 4th thanks to 4 walks, 3 errors, and 2 hits to lead 8-2 over Madison. Alexandria then held the Broncos scoreless for the rest of the game while adding 1 run in the 5th and 3 more in the 7th. Angels starting pitcher Jordan Gau never skipped a beat with his complete game showing, he gave up just 2 runs on 3 hits and walked 6 Broncos.
Madison starting pitcher Chris Brozik was tagged with the loss after being chased in the 4th inning and giving up 4 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks. Brock Selgestad came in and gave up 5 runs in 4 innings. Justin Miller of Canova, Greg Biagi and Heith Williams had the only hits for the Broncos who finish the season 16-7 overall.
Tyson Gau was 4-for-5 with an RBI and run scored for the Angels, Jordan Gau also drove in a pair of runs. Alexandria moves onto the Class B State Semifinals Saturday night at 7:30pm and will face Harrisburg. The Woodies defeated the Crofton, NE Bluejays 3-1 Friday evening.
