The quarterfinals of the Class B Amateur Baseball State Tournament continued to set the bar high for the entire tournament with Thursday night’s games. Garretson defeated Winner/Colome for the 2nd straight year with a 6-5 win in the first game of the night. Larchwood’s offense did not show any signs of slowing down in their 15-2 win over the Irene Cardinals.
Garretson took the opening lead with a 3-0 advantage after the1st inning. The Blue Jays kept the Pheasants scoreless through the first 5 innings and even led 4-0. Winner/Colome eventually got a run in the 6th inning to cut the deficit down to 4-1. Heading to the 9th inning, Winner/Colome trailed 6-2 and scored 3 times before the final out ended the Pheasants season. Garretson also defeated Winner/Colome in the quarterfinals back in 2016 as the Blue Jays made a run to the Class B championship game. Lakin Neugebauer was 3-for-5 for Winner/Colome, Brady Bonte for Garretson finished 3-for-4 with an RBI.
In Game 2, Larchwood swung their way past Irene in a 15-2 victory in 7 innings. The Diamonds started the top of the 1st with 4 runs then added on 7 more in the 5th. Koury Kramer led Larchwood with a 3-for-5 night including a 2-run double in the 1st, Keaton Grevengoed also bashed a 3-run home run for the Diamonds in the 7th. Larchwood moves onto the Class B Semifinals and will face Garretson Saturday at 1:00pm from Cadwell Park in Mitchell.
