The Lake County Commission took action on several personnel items on Thursday. Commissioners voted to appoint a new Coroner. Mark Rustand, who had served as the county’s Deputy Coroner, was appointed effective Thursday and will serve through January 6th of 2019. Rustand, who replaces former Coroner Ted Weiland will be paid at the current rate for fees of $58.50 per call and expenses.
Also Thursday, commissioners voted to hire a new full-time Office Manager for the Community Health Nurse’s office. Kelsey Smith will work in the Office Manager position effective July 24th, at a rate of 15-dollars an hour, contingent on a background check. Commission Administrative Officer Shelli Gust said that the state Department of Health is currently evaluating whether a part-time Office Assistant is necessary in the Community Health Nurse’s Office, so the hiring process for that position has been put on hold until a determination can be made.
County commissioners Thursday also approved the hiring of a new Jail Administrator. Sheriff Tim Walburg told commissioners that Amber Peters’ hiring is effective July 3rd at a rate of 19-dollars an hour. He said Peters had working in the Lake County jail since December of 2016 and has five years of jail and mental health experience. With Peters’ hiring, the commission also authorized Gust to assist the Sheriff’s Office with advertising and filling the vacancy of a female Correctional Officer.
The commission took action on a couple of part-time positions as well on Thursday. Courtney VanZanten has been hired as the Assistant Veterans Service Officer and Emergency Manager. VanZanten’s employment is effective August 1st at a rate of 15-dollars an hour.
Also, Hanna Reinicke has been hired as a part-time Correctional Officer with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Reinicke’s employment is effective Thursday at a rate of 14-dollars an hour.
